Good Is What We Do
THE GOOD WE DO IN ASSISTING VETERANSSmithfield is not only committed to hiring veterans in our own ranks, but also supporting them in our communities. Like our work with Military Missions In Action (MMIA) that furnishes the homes of vets in need.
THE GOOD WE DO IN COMBATTING FOOD INSECURITYSmithfield takes its responsibility as a global leader in protein production seriously, and is always finding new ways to fight hunger, especially in rural communities. Like our partnership with Ripe for Revival, who brings mobile markets with fresh food to those in need.
THE GOOD WE DO IN HUMAN HEALTHSmithfield BioScience converts byproducts from our facilities into essential pharmaceuticals like Heparin. These products enable physicians to treat serious conditions including blood clots, and to save the lives of folks like Clarence.
THE GOOD WE DO FOR SMITHFIELD FAMILIESSince 2002, the Smithfield Scholarship Program has been awarding educational scholarships to the children of our employees to further their education. Students like Sandi, whose father Vincente’s 15 years with Smithfield helped her through four years at Iowa State University as the first in her family ever to go to college.
THE GOOD WE DO IN EQUITABLE AGRICULTURESmithfield Foods has pledged $10 million over the next three years to build a stronger, more inclusive agricultural future by financially and technically supporting America’s minority farmers. This program ensures capital and confidence for folks like Aaron Blackmon, who’s taking over this family farm and taking it into the future.
THE GOOD WE DO IN EDUCATIONSmithfield Foods’ long-standing commitment to scholarships and educational grants totals more than $8.1 million in the United States alone. Those donations go to funding programs like An Achievable Dream, which is leveling the playing field for children in low-income communities. Lashondra’s a testament to this good work, and she’s putting in work of her own to give back.
THE GOOD WE DO IN COMBATING HUNGERAs a global protein company, hunger relief is the cornerstone of Smithfield Foods’ mission and a significant focus of our community efforts. In 2020, we committed to donating 100 million servings of protein through our Helping Hungry Homes initiative by 2025, helping people in need like Megan — who’s now returning the favor.
