Strengthening and feeding our communities
We focus our philanthropic efforts largely on three signature causes that align with our core business and the needs of our people and communities: hunger relief, education, and veterans. In addition to keeping our local communities strong, we also support a number of far-reaching initiatives in the United States and internationally.
We're fighting hunger
As a global food company, feeding people is what we do. That’s why we created our Helping Hungry Homes® initiative to feed the hungry and fight food insecurity nationwide.
Since 2008, we have donated hundreds of millions of servings of protein to food banks, disaster relief efforts and community outreach programs in all 50 states across the country.
We're supporting education
Since 2002, Smithfield has provided nearly $7 million to fund educational scholarships for the eligible dependents of our employees.
We also create pathways of opportunity for future leaders of our industry through Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education programs.
We're serving veterans
Through our Helping Our Heroes initiative, we prioritize veteran employment and career development, help power veteran-owned businesses and strengthen the community and family support systems that veterans rely on every day.
This includes a goal to hire 4,000 veterans by the end of 2025, expanding hiring efforts to include military spouses, and prioritizing working with veteran-owned businesses, in addition to minority-owned and women-owned businesses, across our supply chain.
