Acting responsibly goes a long way in producing good food
The good food you enjoy is provided with the help of many resources and stakeholders. They place a great deal of trust in us, and we consider it our responsibility to take care of those assets.
As responsible corporate citizens, we recognize the importance of strong, vibrant communities and strive to make a positive impact in the areas where our employees work and live. At Smithfield, we focus in particular on programs that nourish the body and the mind.
Helping Hungry Homes® – Putting nutritious food on tables in need
As a global food company, it just makes sense for us to focus many of our community involvement efforts on feeding the hungry. We created our Helping Hungry Homes initiative to do just that.
Learners to Leaders® – Inspiring minds to strengthen communities
We believe education is a key to strong, growing communities. Our Learners to Leaders national education alliance provides learning opportunities for those who may not otherwise have them.
The Smithfield-Luter Foundation – Giving back to our employees and their families
The Smithfield-Luter Foundation provides scholarships for the children and grandchildren of employees. It supports other valuable education initiatives in our communities as well.
To further define how we are taking care of our resources, we have developed six core sustainability reporting areas: animal care, employees, environment, food safety & quality, helping communities and value creation. Visit Our Commitments or download a copy of our 2012 Integrated Report for more information about these six pillars and our sustainability programs.
